You have 10 days to answer an authority's request
Since 12 August 2026, every bottle you bring in from Argentina, Chile, the US or South Africa needs a declaration of conformity and technical documentation behind it. Your wineries have to produce them. You have to be able to show them.
We request the documentation for the packaging of your Argentine Malbec wines.
Please send the declaration of conformity and the technical documentation for each packaging type.
Do you know which bottles are covered?
Which declaration applies to each one?
Which documents are missing?
One row per wine: what you have, what's missing
Pick a winery or a wine type and see at once what's complete and what's missing, down to the capsule.
Give each packaging a code
Bottle, closure, capsule, label: one code per combination.
Link the winery's declaration
The declaration of conformity comes from the winery, which is the manufacturer.
See what's missing
Each component shows which document covers it. Anything uncovered turns red.

Questions importers ask
Does this make me compliant?
Not by itself. It organises your documents and shows the gaps. Compliance depends on the documents your wineries provide. This is general guidance, not legal advice.
Is PPWR already in force?
Yes. The regulation entered into force on 11 February 2025, and its packaging rules apply from 12 August 2026.
What does an importer have to do under PPWR?
Before placing wine on the EU market, make sure the winery has carried out the conformity assessment and drawn up the technical documentation (Art. 18(2)). Put your name and address on the packaging or in a document that comes with it (Art. 18(3)). Keep a copy of the declaration of conformity and make sure the technical documentation can be shown, for 5 years for single-use packaging (Art. 18(7)). Answer an authority's reasoned request within 10 days (Art. 18(8)).
Isn't this the winery's problem?
The winery draws up the documents. You, as importer, must make sure they exist and be able to show them.
